Where did Eugene, OR get its name?
Eugene Oregon was named after Eugene Franklin Skinner (1809-1864). Eugene Skinner was an early American settler who traveled with his wife, Mary, to winter at Sutter's Fort in California. In 1846, they headed north to the Oregon Country and built his cabin on the hill currently known as Skinner Butte.
